Does Someone Have to be Religious to Be a Good Person?

this is something my wife and i were discussing the other day .

in a general view of religious people - most religious people feel it makes them holier, better, or on a higher moral plane claiming to worship god in an organized religion.

in the jehovah's witnesses view - the outside world is evil, and they claim that if you get away from their religion , and " fall away" a person is doomed to go astray, doing various sundry things like murder, adultery, stealing, orgies, because " they claim " that they have fallen " out of " god's favor.

i have heard people say "well its cause i'm a christian" as a pat on the back for acting human. not just witnesses, although they take the cake. i am a good person, i look to help both witnesses and non-witnesses. i cant tell you how many times i have been told " your nicer than most witnesses. my wife and i were discussing this as well. like if a person never had a bible or read a scripture and was a good person. then why do i need a bible or be a witness or anything else for that matter.

why does it feel good to help someone out ? why does it feel good to drink a cold beer on a hot day? or why does it suck when the red sox win the world series? do we really need to know all the answers? and what would it change if we did?

i don't post as much as i used to.

i certainly don't start many threads anymore.. but, i thought it would be nice to get some feedback.

both from those that know my situation well and those that don't.i am a ubm.

well i can't be of much help. me UBM trying to fade myself. her devout like crazy.(i guess you would have to be,now that i think about it). when i try and miss a stupid meeting i get a rash of s@#t. i told her no CA htis year. she still asks if im goin. missing tonight and hopefully sunday. the level of guilt is pretty high and im not sure why that is. we have the bookstudy @ our house so thats just a matter of time. if my wife saw any "apostae" pubs, i imagine she would feel betrayed. they dont what to know.. happy with the lie, when u question its like their vindicated. i HATE religion. i really do.

last week or so, elder overjoyed that he had flood damage at his house and insurance co. will be over paying for repairs that are not needed. he was planning a vacation with the extra cash. laughing all the way.

how about prayer @ meal times. i dont wanna do it, but not sure how to handle it.

i was pm with a@g and have with others here in the one-in-one-out marriage situation, and have a question.

time flies.....i have been considered apostate for at least two years now, and it seems my wife says she loves me all the time....almost makes me uncomfortable.

i have changed, not her, and i realize that.

First, thank you for this thread.. my god this hits home.

The level of commitment is unbelievable, there is pain on both sides. It doesn't seem fair and its not I guess.

I hope to work out my issues as well and get valuable insite from this board.

JW at my sons school tonight

my son goes to a very competitive and expensive private school in ct. there are two jw families that also go there.

so tonight he had a choir performance.

one of the jws is also in choir.

In this part of Connecticut there are very rich people. Elder living in 2-4 million $ homes. Some elders are/where corporate execs. All their kids attended or are attending college. The no college talk given by a Worton Bus. School grad with a wife who has a college degree and who kid has 1 as well is not lisyened to by most.
